Smart City Perth

A city set on a hill

The people create a city’s soul, not government

Let’s be the modern day Pharos, a lighthouse to the world.

Perth, Western Australia, it’s time to go global. Asia’s & and emerging Africa’s hub to the new Silicon Valley, Medical, Mining, Construction etc… Centres for education

It’s been an interesting week in New York City and just a few weeks ago I spent a week in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, South India. Both global cities, both in growth mode, both punching their way threw global challenges..

I’ve had time to reflect on my home town, Perth, Western Australia and the possibilities of our city and state.

With local elections coming, don’t think for a second local councillors without a global perspective will get us out of the hole we’ve dug ourselves into. Nor will a state and federal government that is not thinking on a global scale.

It’s time to be a Pharos to a world looking for opportunities and stability. Pharos was one of the Ancient Greek wanders of the world, a lighthouse inviting the world to come to its shores to do Commerce amongst the melting pot of other adventurous people.

Creating hubs in our city centres filled with residents, students and tourists is a must.

We must all contribute – Builders, Lawyers, Developers, Investors, Trades, Trainers, Academics, Engineers, Educators, Philosophers, Philanthropists, Change agents, Futurists, Horticulturalists, Artists, Sports Professionals, Business Owners, Diplomats, Politicians, Landlords, Interns, NGOs and anyone else that wants to make a difference..

Smart City Perth acknowledges that the term Smart City is relatively new and we are yet to understand the effects on a society that is increasingly relying on technology. To collect data for the benefit of managing assets and resources has always played a great roll in the modern city life. Developing a Smart City with a Social Conscience determines to enhance the life of a city’s citizens.

The City of Perth has an opportunity to develop into one of the finest global cities if we develop and back strong leaders that are led by ethics and diversity. There is an increased frustration with local and state government as bureaucracy gets cluttered with the barrage of data, codes and regulations.

Giving a Smart City a soul will attract world class opportunity and will get the best out of data. It will transform current codes and regulations to open up the investment from the four corners of the world. It will also unlock the constant frustration of bureaucracy and allow public servants the ability to administrate with greater ease.

Perth has the opportunity to become the gateway to Australia with Asia on our doorstep. Developing a Global Smart City will net billions of dollars from a wide range of services into our local economy, fostering sustainability we all seek.

It must be an initiative of the people with government support and not the other way around.

An ancient king observed an anomaly under the sun – Servants on horses and prince’s walking ~ Solomon

The future of our city and state must be led by those that can create opportunities and serviced by those that are the administrators.
